PAIL DRIP CROPPING KIT

In November 2019 Well of Plenty took a suitcase full of drip irrigation parts to start the program. Christmas 2020 Well of Plenty set up a campaign to sponsor individual families with a pail cropping kits. The team in Malawi has trained many people to use drip irrigation for crop production. The education to use this system has been unbelievably successful. We are now providing pail kits so families can grow their own crops on their own land. The kits cost $400 each and they enable families to grow crops year round in Malawi to eliminate malnutrition due to insufficient nutricious meals during the dry season. The students of this program are working together with Well of Plenty to provide kits for others around them by planning to pool their surplus products and selling them at markets and restaurants and hotels through a coop program to raise money for more kits. One group of four potential recipients has put together a business plan which includes their collective contribution to buy another kit for their neighbour. One person said. “This is something that is not so big that we cannot participate in it without ongoing funds from abroad. We will be able to expand this program throughout Malawi with just a bit of help to get us started.”

MAY TRIP REPORT

ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS WAS PRESENTING RURAL PASTORS WITH CERTIFICATES OF AGRICULTURAL PROFICIENCY AFTER BEING TRAINED IN THE PRACTICE OF DRIP IRRIGATION TECHNOLOGY WHILE THEY WERE GETTING THEOLOGICAL TRAINING AT THE PENTECOSTAL ASSEMBLIES OF MALAWI HEADQUARTERS IN LILONGWE.

MANY FARMERS WHO HAVE PARTICIPATED IN OUR TRAINING PROGRAMS AT OUR VARIOUS DEMONSTRATION GARDENS HAVE TAKEN THEIR KNOWLEDGE BACK TO THEIR REMOTE VILLAGES AND IMPLEMENTED THE SYSTEMS ON THEIR OWN GARDENS AND FARMS. THEY ARE NOW THE TEACHERS IN THEIR VILLAGES AND EVERYONE IS LEARNING THE SYSTEM. RURAL PASTORS WHO HAVE TAKEN OUR TRAINING PROGRAM ARE EXCITED TO ADD HOLISTIC MINISTRY TO THEIR PASTORAL ROLE IN THE CHURCHES THEY SERVE. FARM FAMILIES ARE GROWING ON AVERAGE 1/3 OF THEIR CROPS FOR THEIR OWN USE INCLUDING ADDING LIVESTOCK TO THE PROGRAM ON THEIR OWN. THE OTHER 2/3 CROP IS BEING GROWN UNDER CONTRACT FOR MARKET PROVIDING AN INCOME FOR THESE PREVIOUS IMPOVERISHED FAMILIES. WE ARE SEEING HAPPINESS, HOPE AND THANKFULNESS TO GOD FOR HIS BLESSING ON THEIR LIVES EVERYWHERE WE GO.
